Top Clean SwapsMaking the switch to safer can be overwhelming. There are so many products that we use on a regular basis, exposing us to many different chemicals and ingredients.
Here's a Helpful Tip:Don't know where to start? Start switching the products that you use the most or that stay on your skin the longest. Swap one product at a time. As you run out of a product that you're currently using, replace it with a safer/clean option. Why Clean Deo Antiperspirants Vs. DeodorantAntiperspirants and deodorants work in different ways. There is a difference between an antiperspirant and a deodorant. To put it simply, antiperspirants fight both sweat and odor, while deodorants only fight odor. Both contain ingredients that interfere with the body's natural endocrine system. What to ExpectSwitching to a clean deodorant is a journey. Expect at least a four-week transition period. At first, there won't be a difference, but after a couple of days, body-odor and sweating will be more noticeable. When continuing to detox, there will be more body-odor and more sweating. It's important to be patient and not get discouraged. Thankfully, there are ways to help with the transition. In the end, you'll find that you will sweat, but you won't stink, and you'll ultimately apply less product. How to Speed up the Detox
Brands I've TriedBelow is a personal review of the brands I have tried and in the order that I tried them over the last three years. Schmidt's : 1/10 This was the first formula I ever tried. It would wipe right off and stain my clothes. The scent was practically nonexistent on my pits. Native : 6/10 I loved this formula at first and the scent was great and it didn't stain my clothes that much. The formula was not long-lasting. I had to stop using this brand because they started to use undisclosed fragrance and their formulas were inconsistent. Tom's of Maine : 6/10 I used to use this brand off-and-on regularly. I liked that the scent was subtle but still there, and the formula wasn't too wet. Some of their formulas irritated my pits. It lasted all day long, but it left major stains on my clothes that were hard to wash out. Type A : 7.5/10 I liked this brand. The scent was both strong and pleasant. I liked that it didn't stain my clothes. Ultimately, I couldn't get past the wet formula and it didn't last all day. Beautycounter : 10/10 I was impressed with Beautycounter's Clean Deo. The formula wasn't too dry or too wet. The scent was strong and lasted all day. I haven't had any irritation nor major staining on my clothes. I already trust this brand with their formulations, performance, and transparency. Things to ConsiderThink about how your skin may react to baking soda and essential oils. Try shaving at night and applying deodorant in the morning to avoid irritation. Not all formulas are created equal-- so do your own research, and find a brand that you trust. Ingredients to avoid: - parabens - aluminum - undisclosed fragrances/parfum - triclosan - alcohol - propylene glycol - phthalates I am an independent consultant with Beautycounter. How to order Your skincare RoutineYou're probably wondering, "what do you apply first-- serum or moisturizer?". Or what about a face oil? I'm sure we all buy a new skin care product first and then later think, "now, how does this fit in?". Here's the deal: the order you apply your skin care products matters. If you don't layer your products correctly, you run the risk of your products becoming ineffective or irritating your skin. When you apply your skin care products in the right order, you're able to maximize their benefits. Below you'll find a breakdown of when to apply each of your skin care products. You can subtract the products that you don't use, but it's important to implement these steps with the products that work for your skin. Don't forget to adapt products as your skin changes with climate or travel. Here's the Breakdown
A ten-step skincare routine isn't for everyone. Remember thinnest to thickest. Listen to your skin, and apply the skincare routine that works for you. I hope you enjoyed this holiday gift guide! Reminder for this holiday season: What is Maskne?"Maskne" is what it sounds like. It's acne related to wearing a face mask or covering. Wearing a mask or facial covering can trap a lot of heat and moisture. Mask-wearing can lead to breakouts, clogged pores, and skin irritation. Along with maskne, some of you may be dealing with allergic contact dermatitis. This is basically an allergic reaction to a chemical that may be in the mask that you're wearing. With all of the recent mask-wearing, I have dealt with both maskne and allergic contact dermatitis. How to Prevent Maskne
How to treat maskne
Try not to pick at your face. The less you touch your face outside of your skincare routine, the less irritated it will be. 3 things to remember: cleanse, treat, & protect I am an independent consultant with Beautycounter. What's BeautycounterFirst things, first: Beautycounter is a beauty brand leading the movement for clean beauty. Beautycounter is built on a powerful mission "to get safer products into the hands of everyone." Their motto is to formulate, educate, and advocate. This post will cover why you should choose Beautycounter and my testimony on why I continue to choose Beautycounter. Here's Why you should choose Beautycounter:
My Clean Beauty TestimonyBeautycounter is the company that helped open my eyes to the state of the beauty industry. I was able to start switching my skincare & makeup products quickly when I became a Beautycounter Consultant. Beautycounter's mission is about getting safer products into people's hands, not just Beautycounter products into people's hands. I started doing my own research and figuring out my preferences for products. I then switched my body and house cleaning products for safer alternatives with several different brands. Since switching the products that I use every day for safer alternatives, I can happily say that I am 2+ years migraine-free. Beautycounter helped me to realize that ingredients are more important than a brand name. What a company stands for is more important than the famous celebrities that endorse it. I'd love to help you make safer choices Beautycounter. be on the lookout for a post on my favorite safer products and the brands that I choose to use in my home.
